STS Technical Services is hiring a Technical Writer in Austin, Texas.
This role is critical in developing clear, concise, and accurate documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and value stream maps. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technical writing within regulated industries and a working knowledge of manufacturing environments, preferably under AS9100 and ITAR compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, write, and maintain detailed work instructions, SOPs, process documentation, and job aids to support supply chain, production, engineering, and quality assurance functions
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) across departments to ensure content accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal and regulatory requirements
- Create and update value stream maps and process flow diagrams to visualize current and future state workflows
- Ensure all documentation aligns with AS9100 and ITAR requirements, as well as internal document control procedures
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by capturing and formalizing updated processes in documentation
- Translate complex technical information into user-friendly documentation for a range of audiences, including shop floor operators and engineering teams
- Assist in the organization and control of documents in accordance with configuration management and document control policies
- Conduct reviews, audits, and validations of technical documentation to ensure consistency and standardization across all documents
- Train stakeholders on how to access and use technical documentation effectively
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum 3 years of technical writing experience in the aerospace, defense, or manufacturing industries
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, Adobe Acrobat, and document control platforms
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles, including value stream mapping and process flow design
- Familiarity with AS9100, ITAR, and ISO 9001 standards
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, English, or related field (or equivalent technical experience)
- Experience with PLM or ERP systems (e.g., Acumatica, Windchill, or SAP)
- Exposure to CAD tools and basic engineering drawings
- Green Belt or Lean Six Sigma certification
