PRIMARY FUNCTION: To deliver dynamic, relevant education and training that prepares students for the workforce, while actively supporting their personal and professional success and building strong relationships with industry and community stakeholders.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Students enrolled in Aviation Structures Technology career majors.
REPORTS TO: This is an Instructor, staff position assigned to the Office of the Assistant Superintendent who is responsible for supervision and evaluation. The Aviation Structures Technology Instructor shall be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the board’s policy on performance appraisal reviews for certified personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Instructs students through various methods including modeling, visuals, hands-on activities, work-based learning, demonstrations, thematic instruction, and scheduling/coordinating guest speakers. Uses multimedia tools, technology, and other materials to supplement presentations. Some online instruction may be required as a part of the program.
- Develops and prepares program curriculum (in-person/online), objectives, course outlines, lesson plans, assignments, projects, and evaluation instruments reflective of the industry. All curricula should follow guidelines or requirements set forth by the state, industry board, and school district.
- Creates meaningful and lasting relationships with business and industry leaders/organizations through advisory committee meetings.
- Attends and keeps current with industry training in specialty areas and implements skills in the classroom environment.
- Objectively administers and evaluates assignments, projects, quizzes, and tests to determine student progress, provides timely feedback, and adjusts instruction as needed.
- Records student grades in student information management software. Communicates issues via written, verbal, and in person communication and progress reports to parents.
- Clearly communicates curriculum and information to various stakeholders via in-person or email, online Learning Management System (LMS), online Student Information System (SIS), and/or video conferencing software.
- Manages the classroom effectively, sets high expectations, and monitors students at all times.
- Assists students with developing soft skills and prepares students for employment upon completion of course.
- Prepares all program completers for competency tests and evaluates students not performing at proper level by initiating a plan of improvement to meet requirements.
- Participates in and/or facilitates faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, teacher training workshops, advisory committee meetings, student recruiting/promotional school events.
- Works cooperatively with counselors, academic center personnel and special needs coordinator to provide educational services for students including those prescribed in IEP/504 plans.
- Performs duties related to participation in and sponsoring of CareerTech student organization events and competitions.
- Supervises students who qualify for work-based learning opportunities and assists with job placement.
- Additional duties that may be assigned by immediate supervisor or above.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

This position requires reliable, dependable and punctual attendance. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes, airborne particles or toxic caustic chemicals. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment will vary from somewhat loud to extremely loud.
INTER-OFFICE COMMUNICATIONS: It is essential to establish a mutual and reciprocal relationship with all staff and to cooperate with peers by always operating jointly and courteously. The purpose should be to keep a conflict free environment.

This position is for a ten (10) month period beginning August 1 and ending May 31 each year unless otherwise notified. Certified teachers employed ten (10) months do not earn vacation leave.
