As Head of Operations, you will be responsible for all aspects of dnata Milan Operations across two airports, overseeing the efficient management and execution of handling activities. The selected candidate will be accountable for end‑to‑end leadership and performance across all operational functions, ensuring safe, compliant, efficient, and customer‑focused service delivery. The role will translate business strategy into effective operational execution, delivering agreed service and financial outcomes, while driving continuous improvement to support sustainable growth. As a member of the country leadership team, the Head of Operations will contribute to strategic decision‑making and build a high‑performing organisation capable of meeting both current and future business needs. Please note that applicants must have the legal right to live & work in the European Union, as this position is based in Milan, Italy.
In this role, you will:
- Lead and manage all operational functions across Malpensa (MXP) and Linate (LIN) operations, working closely with airline management teams.
- Lead with safety as a priority, ensuring robust safety management systems are in place and consistently applied in line with dnata standards.
- Partner with the executive team to define and execute operational and growth strategies aligned to customer expectations and budget targets.
- Own the operational budget, monitoring expenditure and implementing cost‑saving initiatives while maintaining service quality.
- Optimise resource allocation and costs to meet business demands, leading middle management teams to deliver results across departments.
- Drive change through continuous improvement of systems, processes, and practices to maximise efficiency and performance.
- Analyse and monitor key operational KPIs, including on‑time performance, service level agreements, and resource efficiency.
- Recommend and support investment decisions for operational improvement initiatives in collaboration with the Managing Director.
- Build and strengthen relationships with clients, airport authorities, vendors, investors, and international stakeholders to support growth.
- Set clear, measurable objectives for department leaders, driving accountability, performance, and continuous improvement.
QualificationIn order to be considered for this role, you must meet the below requirements:
- Minimum 8 years’ senior operational leadership experience in a comparable, multi‑site organisation; aviation or ground handling experience strongly preferred.
- Must have the legal right to live and work in the European Union.
- Fluent in Italian & English.
- Strong knowledge of airport operations, ground handling services, aviation safety regulations, and industry standards.
- Proven problem‑solving and decision‑making capability with a hands‑on, results‑driven leadership style.
- Strong capability in operational and resource management systems, with the ability to translate data into performance improvements.
- Demonstrated experience in operational budgeting, forecasting, and cost control through optimised resource allocation.
- Proven change leadership experience, including implementing new processes, systems, and technologies.
