The AFM is responsible for the overall management of AM facilities and services to provide a safe, efficient, and effective airfield environment for aircraft operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Plans, organizes, supervises and directs AM, ATC, Weather and Aircraft Services activities.
• Responsible for duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Airfield Manager, Airfield Management Operations Manager and Airfield Operations Training Manager outlined in AFMAN 13-204 V2.
• Develops and directs the implementation of short and long-term operational plans, policies, and procedures of base operations activities and airfield facilities essential to flight safety and flight operations
• Coordinates with the emergency operations center on emergency situations or contingency operations affecting airfield operations.
• Develops an airfield inspection and checks operating instruction (OI), airfield inspection checklist, airfield diagram and airfield discrepancy log to establish procedures for inspecting the airfield for safety and compliance.
• Ensures all airfield lighting, marking, signage, and all aircraft movement areas are safe, efficient and within standards.
• Ensures Bird/Wildlife Hazard Management duties and tasks are accomplished and meet safety standards
• Coordinates and reviews airfield construction plans and monitors airfield construction, repair and maintenance activities along with inspects airfield construction, repair and maintenance activities for safety and compliance.
• Serves as primary OPR and coordinates with base agencies for development of short-term aircraft parking plans for distinguished visitors, contingencies, exercises, static displays, airshows, and other special airfield projects.
• Coordinates with base agencies to designate areas for engine run-up, hot pit refueling, loading, unloading, arming and de-arming of aircraft with hazardous cargo and/or live armament.
• Coordinates on waiver requests potentially affecting airfield and airspace criteria.
• Conducts airfield inspections and checks.
• Fills in as AMSL when needed.
• All other tasks dealing with the airfield environment.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job requires supervisory responsibilities. The position has the responsibility and authority to carry out assigned tasks.
