Boeing AvionX is seeking a highly motivated Technical Lead Engineer to join our team at our new Production and Test facility in Smithfield, PA. to support AvionX work across all business units (BDS, BCA & BGS)
Boeing AvionX develops and produces avionics and electronics systems designed for use on aircraft and other platforms for purposes such as navigation, flight controls, information systems, and other core avionics functions. We have set our sights high to design, develop, and manufacture the most technically advanced and reliable avionic components in the world. We are innovating and developing new products to address the future of the urban air mobility as well as our next generation of commercial, tactical, and trainer aircraft spanets, weapons and others.
The successful candidate will provide senior technical leadership to ensure AvionX avionics designs are producible, testable, reliable, and safe across the full product lifecycle. The successful candidate will drive New Product Introductions (NPI) readiness and DFM/DFT (Design for Manufacturing & Test), resolve product and process issues through root cause and corrective actions, and mentor teams while embedding Safety, Quality, and Lean improvements across programs.
Position Responsibilities
- Lead and support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities, including DFM/DFT and DFMAT reviews, prototype build readiness meetings, prototype builds, and onsite readiness reviews. You ensure designs are production‑ready and remove barriers to successful product ramp
- Review work products and provide Manufacturing and Quality input to design and test artifacts, including schematics, PCB/CCA drawings, parts lists, test plans/procedures, process templates, and coordination/decision memos. You ensure documentation aligns with producibility, testability, and program requirements
- Assess and resolve product and process issues throughout the product lifecycle by identifying deviations that could impact design intent or safety, performing root cause analysis, developing robust dispositions, and driving corrective actions to closure. You coordinate sustaining activities and escalation with Product Support and Repair Centers as needed
- Capture, formalize, and promote lessons learned and DFM/DFT standards across AvionX. You convert field and prototype learnings into institutionalized process changes, SLI (Site Level Instruction) updates, and provide design guidance
- Develop and implement product and process improvements that reduce risk, cost, and schedule impact. You create mitigation plans for identified risks to Safety, Quality, Manufacturing Processes, Test, and program schedule and drive cross functional closure
- Develop, deliver, and maintain technical training, Site Level Instructions (SLIs), and equipment demos. You mentor engineers, interns, co‑ops, and rotational participants to raise team capability in PCB/CCA manufacturability, test techniques, and troubleshooting best practices
- Lead and participate in cross‑functional scrums, ad‑hoc technical meetings, governance and decision boards (e.g., AEdB, PSERB, NPAR, Change Review Boards), and Lean innovation activities. You facilitate timely decisions, continuous improvement, and alignment between Design, Manufacturing, Test, Quality, and Supply Chain
- Perform high level troubleshooting and provide technical support for programs, including hands‑on support during builds and problem resolution that minimizes production impact and reduces field returns
- Create and maintain AvionX level technical artifacts such as site drawings, assembly/process flows, test fixture specifications, and process templates that enable consistent, repeatable builds across sites and suppliers
- Support staffing and execution needs by providing technical input for build processes, screening and interviewing candidates, reviewing Bills of Equipment (BoEs), planning and budgeting for capital and sustainment equipment, and overseeing technical aspects of offload and supplier tasking
- Drive cost reduction and throughput improvement initiatives through participation in readiness reviews, continuous improvement events, and implementation of automation or tooling where it provides measurable value to quality, safety, or program schedule
